Scrip is a gift card from national and local retailers. They are the same gift cards that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including Safeway, SaveMart, Macys, Gap, See’s Candy, and many, many others. Please go to www.GLScrip.com for a complete list of participating retailers. GLScrip is always working to add participants. New Leaf Community Markets also offers their own E-card Program that works the same way.
Here’s how it works: Participating retailers sell cards to GLScrip who in turn sells them to non-profits like TBE at a discount. Member families and community members buy the cards for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our Temple keeps the difference. Scrip is exciting because you get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling and our Temple gets a regular source of very much needed revenue.
The beauty of Scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our Temple without spending a single additional penny. Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out. The percentage that the Temple earns from your purchase of Scrip cards varies anywhere between 2%-25%. The chart below is an example of how much can be made just by doing weekly grocery shopping using Scrip; Safeway gives us 4%, while locally-owned (by a temple member) New Leaf Community Markets gives us up to 7% depending on the denomination of the card you purchase.

Ordering Scrip cards is easy. Order forms can be downloaded below or are available at the Temple. Please note that New Leaf has its own separate order form. Allow a one week turnaround when ordering cards. The turnaround for New Leaf may vary based on the number of orders received. Orders can be put in the Donation Box located beneath the office window in the Temple Lobby or mailed to Temple Beth El, Attn: Scrip Program, 3055 Porter Gulch Road, Aptos, CA 95003. Payment for Scrip Cards must accompany each order and checks should be made out to Temple Beth El. You will receive a call letting you know when your order is available for pick-up. Cards will be mailed to people who have turned in a “Mailing Release” form and self-addressed, stamped envelope (with each order).
