The word Chavurah comes from the Hebrew word "chaver" meaning friend, and also has the meaning of circle or joining. Joining a Chavurah can help you develop a sense of belonging and connectedness to the Temple Beth El Community. The Chavurah celebrates Jewish life. Through programs of study, observances of holidays and festivals, socializing and sharing of simchas, members personalize and vitalize their Jewish experience. They also participate together in Temple life and in community concerns.
Chavurahs typically consist of groups of about seven to ten families, individuals, or couples who meet socially and share common interests. We do our best to match people based on interests, children's ages (if applicable) and location. Groups meet once a month or every six weeks and plan their own activities based upon the group interests. Everyone participates in the planning of events and it's a very enriching experience as you share life cycle events and holidays together. Some of the Chavurahs at Temple Beth El have been watching their families grow together for close to 20 years.
