Shabbat services
Traditionally, Shabbat is a home observance with lighting of candles and blessings of wine and challah. We bring in the community element with our meaningful Shabbat services.
-
Friday night service, 7:30 pm—a mix of traditional and contemporary worship. Some Shabbats feature the acclaimed Beth El Choir, holiday observances, and other programs of interest to our community. In August, services begin at 6:15 pm.
Rock Shabbat - calendar of services
Saturday morning minyan, 10:00 am—Chanting of the Torah and study of the weekly portion is led by lay persons, enhanced by English interpretation and songs that create the spiritual Kavanah we seek in coming together in prayer. Call ahead to arrange free childcare.
- Bar/Bat Mitzvah services, 10:15 am—Frequently throughout the year our young teens are called to lead the Saturday morning service for their families and friends and our congregation.
- Tot Shabbat, selected Fridays, 7:00 pm—held four times a year, these services are designed especially for toddlers through kindergarten kids and their families. Age-appropriate songs and stories are shared. Pre-service potluck dinner at 6:15 pm.
- Selichot, the friday night before High Holidays—one of our most popular services of the year, Selichot is held at the beach with a potluck dinner and bonfire, followed by roasting marshmallows.
Saturday morning minyanim with TBE and the Chadesh Yameynu Community - Join Reb Eli and Rabbi Paula for joyful, warm and spirited prayer and learning. These minyanim have been a wonderful opportunity to explore the wide range of traditional and creative davvening. Please bring a vegetarian potluck item to share for the Kiddush.
In 2009, joint minyan services were held on the following dates:
March 7, 2009
April 4, 2009
May 16, 2009
June 30, 2009
Tuesday morning minyan, 8:00 am
Jewish healing services—These special services are held periodically for people facing life threatening illness, those recovering from emotional trauma, and caregivers who need support as they minister to others. We look to our tradition for strength and hope for ourselves and those we love.
Yiskor services—we conduct Yiskor memorial services on Yom Kippur after the morning service, at Shemini Atzeret, on the seventh day of Passover, and on the second day of Shavuot. It is customary to light a memorial candle at home for each of these occasions.
