Join Rabbi Shifra for Interfaith Climate Shabbat. The focus of the service will be how faith traditions speak to care for mother earth.
Dan Haifley will be presenting after the service on the proposal to open up the waters off the Coast to offshore oil drilling and mining. Environmental organizations are mobilizing to defeat this proposal and Dan is one of the leaders in this effort.
From 1986 to 1993, Dan Haifley was Executive Director of Save Our Shores, based in Santa Cruz, California, where he spearheaded the creation of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. From 1999 to 2019, he was Executive Director of O'Neill Sea Odyssey, a non-profit organization offering a free oceanography and ecology program for school-aged youth sailing Monterey Bay. Haifley wrote the column "Our Ocean Backyard" for the Santa Cruz Sentinel newspaper until April, 2019 and continues writing for the paper today.
