Refugee Shabbat-RP
Friday, February 3, 2023 • 12 Sh'vat 5783
7:30 PM - 8:30 PMWe want to invite you to join Rabbi Paula for a Shabbat service this Friday recognizing the struggles and triumphs of being a refugee in this country. Rabbi Paula was asked by HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) to invite a family from our community to speak about their experience making their way to the U.S. as well as what it has been like to live here. HIAS is a Jewish American nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees. It was originally established in 1881 to aid Jewish refugees. When asked, the Gutierrez family graciously agreed to speak to our congregation. We are providing translation from a Colombian friend who lives in Santa Cruz. This family of four is from Bogata and came here 8 months ago out of concern for their safety. Their two teenaged kids are enrolled in school here and the family has just found a home to rent in Santa Cruz. We hope you can come and show your support.
