About Simcha Preschool

Music teacher singing with children     "Simcha," the name of our preschool is a beautiful Hebrew word meaning “joy,” aptly describing our exemplary Jewish early childhood program, located at Temple Beth El.  Founded in 1980 by a group of local families, Simcha has a rich history of sharing our Jewish heritage, values, and culture in a nurturing developmentally-appropriate environment for young children.

We also deeply value and integrate Anti-Bias and Anti-Racism activities, learning, curriculum, professional development, and discussions we share at Simcha Preschool.  We believe that it is important for young children to learn in developmentally and age-appropriate ways about diversity, racial literacy, how to be anti-racist, and how to support and advocate for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC),  LGBTQIA+ peers and community members, and anyone.

Lifelong friendships are forged among children and families at Simcha Preschool.  Many of our Simcha alums return as parents of the next generation, a rich testament to an enduring program.

Our award-winning and year-round program serves children ranging in age from 2 through 6 years of age. Families may choose from a variety of scheduling options.

Our Toddler class (ages 2- turning 3) will include 7 children and 2 teachers.  The Preschool class (ages 3 - turning 4) will include 12 children and 2 teachers.  Our Pre-K class (ages 4 - turning 5) will have 16 children and 2 teachers. Our TK/Kindergarten class (ages 4.5 - turning 6) will have 14 childen and 1 teacher with an aide.

The inviting outdoor environments and classrooms are staffed by a team of professional, highly trained teachers. They all share a deep commitment to a play-based, emergent curriculum, that also draws from the latest best practices in early childhood education along with a strong partnership with families.

Another component of our program is monthly parent participation, offering parents a variety of opportunities to contribute to their child’s education. During the year we offer a number of Parent Education events to address family needs and concerns, We also enjoy a strong abiding connection with the Temple, including the weekly celebration of Shabbat with one of the rabbis who take turns coming to sing with the children.
