Under The Boardwalk!
All of TBE is Invited
Sunday, December 8, 9:30 AM
RSVP NOW for the Tour! It fills up fast.

Back by popular demand, Brotherhood is sponsoring “Under the Boardwalk,” a FREE behind-the-scenes tour of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk for temple members. This event SOLD OUT the last two times Brotherhood and the Boardwalk sponsored this tour.

TBE’s own Marq Lipton will lead us on a rare expedition to explore the secrets under the Boardwalk, unseen by the public, where only we fortunate few will venture. Marq reports that there’s even some Jewish history at the Boardwalk. Meet at the merry-go-round for the approximately 90-minute tour. But you must RSVP to Dan Iuster at dan@iuster.com as soon as possible. Reservations will be cut off once we reach the maximum number that the Boardwalk can accommodate.

First come, first served!

For those who would like to enjoy an early lunch, we’re planning a group feast in the party room at the bowling alley at 11:30 AM. Watch for details on menu and cost. You’re also welcome to enjoy the limited Boardwalk rides and games, indoor arcades, mini golf, laser tag and delicious foods. This is going to be a fun-filled day!

Brotherhood Plays with the Seals at Ano Nuevo
Tuesday, December 24, 10:30 AM

Brotherhood is sponsoring a guided tour of beautiful Ano Nuevo State Reserve and its fascinating elephant seals. The tour is set for 11:45 AM, when the big bulls should start arriving in town. We will have a nice spread of bagels, shmears, fruit and juice, in the picnic area at 10:30 AM. The cost is $15 per person, and State Parks charges $10 per car for parking (unless you’ve purchased an annual pass). Since we only have 20 tour tickets, the tour is restricted to Brotherhood members with paid-up 2020 dues and their families.

Please RSVP by sending your check (made payable to TBE Brotherhood) to Michael Rein at 31 Taryn Court, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Pre-payment is required, and tickets can be picked up from Brotherhood at the picnic/parking area.

This event will sell out, so please reserve your spaces soon. If you have any questions or would like to carpool, please contact Mike at mike@reinlaw.net.

Brotherhood Brunch
CASA: A Voice for Children at Risk
Speaker: Jimmy Cook, CASA Program Director and Youth Advocate

Sunday, January 5, 10:00 AM
Every year nearly 400 children in Santa Cruz County are involved in the Juvenile Dependency Care System (foster care) due to abuse or neglect. The cases with the most critical needs are referred to CASA to be matched with a Volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate. Our speaker is the Program Director for CASA of Santa Cruz County, Jimmy Cook. Jimmy was a Social Worker Supervisor with Santa Cruz County Health and Human Services for six years before joining CASA in 2012, and he is now an instrumental part of a four-county pilot program in California that intends to provide youth in the Juvenile Justice System with Advocates. Hear inspirational stories of how just one person contributing a few hours per week can make a significant impact for children and youth affected by trauma. Beginning at 10:00 AM, we'll enjoy our always delicious bagel and lox brunch, take care of a little Brotherhood business, followed by Jimmy's talk at 11:00, concluding before noon. Recommended donation is $5 for Brotherhood members and $7 for non-members.
