What Is Sisterhood?

Sisterhood offers Temple women opportunities to build
friendships while we work together to support Temple Beth El in many ways. The income raised by Sisterhood through our projects, such as the Chocolate and Wine event, Honey from the Heart, the Green Sale and Bubbe’s Bakery at the Jewish Cultural Festival, membership dues and especially the
Temple Gift Shop, contributes thousands of dollars along with thousands of volunteer hours benefiting Temple Beth El every year. Sisterhood yearly contributes to the General Fund, for the Oneg Aide, funds for youth camp scholarships, SRFY (youth group), the B’nai Mitzvah Retreat, Camp Kayetz, confirmation and b’nei mitzvah gifts for Temple youth, the Chanukah Extravaganza, High Holidays, Simcha Preschool, and more. We have used our funds to replace the dishes, pots and pans, and silverware in the Temple kitchen, remodel the Temple bathrooms, and this year are replacing an oven in the kitchen.

Sisterhood is an integral part of Temple Beth El and we are proud of the dedication and generosity that our members bring in its support. We encourage everyone to consider getting more involved with Sisterhood to help us achieve our goals and experience the warm community of women at Temple Beth El. Please send your dues to TBE and write Sisterhood Dues in the Memo area. To be announced

Sisterhood is actively looking for new leadership volunteers. Many of the women who have been in positions of responsibility in Sisterhood are retiring this year to work in supporting roles rather than leadership roles. Now is the time to consider offering your support to keep Sisterhood alive and vibrant. In consideration of your busy lives, we have thought to divide the traditional Sisterhood Board positions into committees of several people each, who would work mostly together within the small committee, while attending quarterly meetings:

Finance Committee (signing checks, creating budget)
Event Coordinators (recruitment of volunteers for events, such as High Holidays, Latke Dinner, Wine and Chocolate event)
Communication Committee (email communication to Sisterhood members, create Shofar
Membership Committee (coordinating annual membership letters and receipts, maintaining  Sisterhood database)
Sisterhood Coordinator (plan and lead the quarterly meetings, serve as main communication contact).

Several previous Sisterhood Board members are already committed to these committees. If you are able to join us to work on any of these committees, even if you only have a couple hours per week to contribute, please let us know; contact  Shelly Nadelman-DouglassWe look forward to working with you!
