7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Anti-Semitism has been exploited politically since the term was first coined in the nineteenth century. From charges of Judeo-Bolshevism to Charlottesville and beyond, attacking Jews is a modern political tradition that crosses borders and ideologies. In this salon, Nathaniel Deutsch will trace the history of anti-Semitism in politics and its current status.
Nathaniel Deutsch is professor of history at the University of California, Santa Cruz where he holds the Murray Baumgarten Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies. He is the author, with Michael Casper, of A Fortress in Brooklyn: Race, Real Estate, and the Making of Hasidic Williamsburg
