Brotherhood Brunch by Zoom

Sunday, June 28, 2020 6 Tammuz 5780

10:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Featuring Kara Meyberg Guzman, Founder of
"The Future of Local Journalism"
Throughout the country, local newspapers are shrinking and disappearing. So-called "news deserts" have formed, and communities have turned to platforms such as Nextdoor to get crowdsourced information with unreliable accuracy. Here in our county, the Santa Cruz Sentinel has shrunk to two news reporters in recent months. Communities like ours must rethink how we get fair, accurate and deep local news. Please join our next Zoom brunch with Kara Meyberg Guzman, CEO and co-founder of Santa Cruz Local, a news podcast, newsletter and website that serves Santa Cruz County. Kara, the former managing editor of the Santa Cruz Sentinel, will discuss current trends and fundamentally new business models for local journalism. Attendees are encouraged to participate and share their priorities for local news coverage and the upcoming local elections in November. Your input in this session will guide Santa Cruz Local's reporting and questions for local candidates.
We’ll take care of a little Brotherhood business at 10:45, and Kara will begin her presentation at 11:00, finishing around noon. Cost: Nothing! Look in your temple emails for the Zoom link, or contact Melissa.
