“How Rainforests and Other Green Regions of our Planet Affect Climate Change"

The use of petroleum-based fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, in turn driving significant changes in our climate. Our planet is warming, with potentially disastrous consequences. It has been argued, however, that plant photosynthesis takes up some of this carbon dioxide and may moderate atmospheric changes. At this juncture, we are just beginning to understand the role of the Earth's green regions, such as rainforests, in the climate change balance.

Please join us for our next Brotherhood Brunch featuring Gliessman Presidential Chair in Water Resources and Food System SustainabilityProfessor Elliott Campbell who is developing new scientific methods for assessing the Earth's carbon dioxide metabolism. Professor Campbell's work, funded by the National Science Foundation, has led to coverage on NPR, The Economist, and consultations with the U.S. EPA.

Beginning at 10 AM, we'll enjoy our always delicious lox and bagel brunch, take care of a little Brotherhood business, followed by Professor Campbell's talk at 11, concluding before noon. Recommended donation is $5 for Brotherhood members and $7 for non-members.
