The current administration has brought numerous changes and challenges to the National Institutes of Health, the largest biomedical research agency in the world. As a result, there has been a dramatic impact on the direction of research and funding decisions. Glenn will explain how the NIH is organized, how research proposals are reviewed and ultimately funded. He will focus on recent changes reflecting the administration’s views on DEI, vaccines, and government efficiency and give us insight into the ultimate effect of these actions.
TBE member, Glenn Millhauser, is a distinguished professor in the UCSC Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In his research, he uses biophysical methods to study neurological proteins, their cofactors and how mis-regulation contributes to disease. He received his PhD from Cornell University.
