Temple Beth El is a warm, caring community that fosters dynamic spiritual growth.

At Temple Beth El, spiritual exploration, religious experience, political action, and cultural expression all have a place of importance. Temple Beth El welcomes all who seek to be a part of us, regardless of lifestyle, marital status, age, family configuration, or religion of origin. Bring an open mind, a willing heart, and together we will find our way as modern Jews.

Dear New-Member-to-Be,

Whether you are new to the Santa Cruz area or have lived here for a while and are now exploring joining a Jewish community, you are invited and encouraged to join Temple Beth El. Located in Aptos, we are a Reform congregation of about 525 families serving the Jewish community in the greater Santa Cruz area. While we are a fairly large congregation, we can assure you we maintain a small synagogue feel. New members are personally welcomed by our Executive Director, our rabbis, and a representative of our membership committee. Our Gesher v’Kesher program matches you with a congregant or family who will help you get settled into the community. We have a number of thriving Chavurot (smaller and more intimate groups of members), a Senior Connections group, Senior and Junior Youth Groups and an NAEYC Accredited Preschool. You and your family members are sure to find a group of fellow congregants who share your lifestyle, joys and concerns. We consider ourselves a Covenantal Community, bound together by our tradition, love of community and commitment to sustain a warm, caring and diverse Jewish center for ourselves, our children and future generations.

We are blessed with a clergy team that provides a wide range of worship styles, spiritual practices, pastoral support, education, Temple leadership and social justice activities. Whether you are comfortable with modern spiritual forms such as Rock Shabbat, reform Sabbath evening services or very traditional Saturday morning services with Hebrew davening, Torah reading and thoughtful Divrei Torah (Torah discussion), you will find it at Temple Beth El.
