Library Catalog

The library collection is cataloged and searchable at http://tbeaptos.libib.com.  The library holds more than 4,000 volumes, shelved according to the Weine classification, a scheme adapted from Dewey Decimal.  While a subject  guide and shelf labels may help you find items by browsing, the online catalog is the best way to explore, discover and locate books in the collection.  You can browse, search or follow subject tags to explore what is available in our library, where the record will display further information about the book, provide links to related books, and will provide you with their location within the collection..

The catalog allows you to browse entries by author, title or publication date, but it is usually most useful to use the Search or Tagoptions.

The Search interface is very simple, featuring a basic search box (a la Google) that looks for the terms you enter across all parts of the catalog record.  It will search broadly and almost always find something.

Hint: It is often best – more precise – to use fewer words, especially avoiding common words.  For example, including "Jewish" in any search will retrieve almost half the collection: "Jewish cookbooks" retrieves almost 2000 records while "cookbooks" retrieves 60.

Following subject Tags is another effective approach to finding items in the collection.Tags appear as orange buttons appended to most records.  Clicking on a tag will retrieve any other items assigned the same tag.

Hint:  Beginning with a simple keyword search and then selecting tags from the most relevent records is often the most successful strategy for exploring the collection.

You can also explore the collection using the Tag List (click the button at the top-right of the screen). This will display all of the tags in one alphabethically list, allowing you to see more of the subject  organization of the collection.  Selecting a tag from the list will retrieve all books assigned that tag.
