What is the Bible to you? Is it an interesting book and a good read, or does the Bible have relevance to you, now, in our time, in the 21st century? In this 4-week class, we will use specific topics to inspire us to find ourselves in the Bible, which will become a model for us in learning how to bring personal meaning to biblical lessons.

November 2 - Misusing Religion: Prayer and spirituality are beautiful tools that can provide us with hope, healing, and security but sometimes they can be used in ways that are harmful. This is certainly relevant to our own times when we see how religion can be used to manipulate others and also to promote specific agendas.

November 9 - Going Against the Grain: Standing up for what we believe in and staying true to ourselves requires tremendous courage. In this class we will use biblical examples of when we have to stand up for what is right, and models for doing so.

November 16 - On the Margins: Can a book thousands of years old also affirm aspects of our identities that seem more individualized and modern?  In this lesson we will check in with some contemporary thinkers who are reading the Bible in new ways, in hopes of finding themselves there.
November 30 - Holding Onto Hope: The Bible has a beautiful message for us at times when we are miserable: there is hope! In this week’s lesson, we will look at instances when people’s lives were terrible, and they felt desperate. But they found a way to carry on.
